ORIGIN OF PROGRAM

As a component of the CARES-Act funds accepted by the City Council on July 1,the City of Scottsdale allocated approximately $3,200,000 for small business financial assistance program. The Scottsdale Small Business Reimbursement Program was developed to provide financial assistance to businesses located in the City of Scottsdale for reimbursement of costs associated with supplies and equipment as necessitated for community health and safety related to increased COVID-19 protection. The City of Scottsdale, via a solicitation process, contracted with the Scottsdale Industrial Development Authority for administering the program.

Program Criteria

The following criteria was utilized in evaluating applications for funding:

• Business must be located in the City of Scottsdale.

• Business size between 0 and 100 employees.

• Business owner must have owned and operated their business for at least 3 years prior to March 2020.

• Reimbursement for purchases of supplies and equipment as necessitated for community health and safety related to increased COVID-19 protection.

• Detailed documentation must be provided verifying expenses and receipt of supplies and equipment.

• Business must have documented proof of applying for other financial assistance programs.

• Business must provide a detailed plan for retaining all safety measures funded under this program through Dec. 31, 2020, unless the city authorizes in writing that they can be removed sooner.

Applications Breakdown

232 applications were submitted requesting a total of $779,754 in reimbursement funds. 105 of those applications were received on the final day of the program. Applications were reviewed as they came in by the Scottsdale IDA with oversight, auditing and guidance on questions provided by the economic development department.

The result of the 232 applications was as follows:

  • 194 applications approved

  • A total of $625,011.42 in reimbursements approved
